Our Outdoor Teak Furniture

Our teak furniture is crafted using A-Grade teak — widely regarded as the finest timber for outdoor use. Teak is a stable, high-density hardwood with a high natural oil and rubber content, making it naturally water-repellent and resistant to decay. Its beautiful golden hue and tight, even grain have made it a preferred material in both shipbuilding and fine furniture for centuries.

Sustainably Sourced Teak

Design Warehouse uses sustainably harvested Javanese teak, sourced through Perum Perhutani — a government agency in Indonesia that oversees responsible forestry and replanting. These teak plantations, originally established by Dutch settlers, are among the oldest in the world. The regulation and annual harvesting limits help promote reforestation and preserve this valuable resource.

A-Grade Teak: The Highest Quality

We use only A-Grade teak — also referred to as Triple-Grade-A or Super Grade — which is sourced from the heartwood of mature trees. This premium cut has a rich, golden tone, minimal knots, and a consistently tight grain. A-Grade teak comprises only about 20% of harvestable timber and is typically taken from trees over 30 years old. It’s dense, durable, and rich in natural oils — qualities that set it apart from Grade-B or Grade-C teak, which may contain knots, colour inconsistencies, or fillers. Be cautious of furniture treated with stains or oils to mimic the appearance of A-Grade teak.

Expert Craftsmanship

Our teak furniture is built to last. Each piece is precision-crafted using kiln-dried teak and time-honoured joinery methods such as mortise-and-tenon construction. We use stainless steel or solid brass hardware, marine-grade epoxies, and ultra-fine sanding techniques to achieve a smooth finish. All manufacturing follows stringent quality control measures to ensure long-term performance and beauty.

Why A-Grade Teak is the Premier Choice for Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor furniture should be built to last a lifetime. A-Grade teak is renowned for its exceptional weather resistance, strength, and longevity — qualities that have made it the material of choice for shipbuilding and high-end outdoor furnishings for generations. Its performance in harsh outdoor environments is unparalleled.

Weather resistance: Teak handles extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and moisture with ease. Its natural oils protect against warping, cracking, and water absorption — challenges that affect most natural materials. Teak is even a preferred choice in alpine environments such as ski lodges.

Natural pest resistance: A-Grade teak naturally resists insects like termites and marine borers due to its high oil and rubber content. As a dense, tightly grained hardwood, it is inherently more durable than lesser timber grades.

Low maintenance: Teak weathers gracefully to a silver-grey patina over time, requiring little maintenance. This surface change does not affect the wood’s structural integrity. For those who prefer to maintain the original honey tones, occasional treatment with a teak sealer is all that’s needed. Learn more in our guide on how to care for A-Grade teak furniture.

Exceptional longevity: Properly maintained teak furniture can last a lifetime — or even be passed on for generations. There are public examples of original teak pieces in use for over a century.

Timeless beauty: Teak’s warm golden hue and consistent grain give it a natural elegance. Over time, the wood develops a refined patina, adding character without compromising durability. Our use of brass and stainless-steel fittings prevents rust stains and maintains the integrity of the design.
