Stainless Steel Outdoor Furniture Care
How to Clean Stainless Steel Furniture
Design Warehouse uses premium 316 marine-grade stainless steel for its outdoor furniture collections. Known for its high nickel content and corrosion resistance, this alloy is engineered for exceptional durability — even in challenging coastal environments. It's the same grade used in high-end products like Rolex® watches.
Cleaning 316 stainless steel is simple and low-maintenance. While it is highly resistant to rust and pitting, occasional upkeep will help preserve its brushed finish and prevent minor surface discolouration (such as tea staining).
For day-to-day maintenance, a wipe-down with a clean microfiber cloth is usually sufficient. In harsher environments — such as beachfront properties or areas with year-round humidity — a more regular cleaning schedule is recommended.
- Do not use bleach, chloride-based cleaners, or abrasive cleaning products.
- Do use pH-neutral soap with fresh water and a soft cloth.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry immediately with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Inspect more frequently in salt-air environments or heavy rainfall areas.
For periodic deeper cleaning, consider 3M™ stainless steel cleaner to remove fingerprints and light oxidation. You may also use a non-abrasive 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ pad to gently brighten the surface, followed by a polish.
With thoughtful care and regular maintenance, your stainless steel furniture will continue to offer lasting beauty, comfort, and strength — season after season.
